Buy Freedom

How can you buy freedom?  I think if you just analyze your situation more and think a little differently about how you spend your money, the freedom you desire can be purchased.

Not by buying guns.  Not by rioting.  Not by looting.  Not by joining groups and marching.  Not by voting.  And certainly not by waiting for someone else to grant you freedom.

I want my freedom now.  Not decades from now when things are going ot be better.  Now.  Now.  Now.

I am not interested in waiting to live and enjoy freedom from whatever.  I want to live now.

I do not want to wait to have the kind of life I want.  I talk about how I think about buying freedom in my podcast here -

I think you need to question what kind of obligations you get yourself into.  Instead of buying things and getting into expensive situations that are very difficult to get out of.  Question everything.

To me it makes no sense to get into a giant mortgage on a home.  I love houses.  I would love to get into a big house again someday.  But only if I can easily afford it.  Only if the payment on that house is small compared to the normal income I have.

The mistake I made and I think most people make is taking out a mortgage that is the most the bank will give you.  That is too much.  Way too much.  The 20 to 30 percent of your income they will give you makes no sense.  A better percentage is around 10 % of your lowest monthly income.

I would rather use my money to keep purchasing the things I want with cash, not credit.  I use the leftover money to pay down my old debts with the goal of being debt free.

Being debt free is the classic method of buying your freedom.  But I don't think you go far enough.

Here are a few more ideas to buy your freedom for you to consider:

  • Pay the bills you get in the mail as soon as they arrive.  What is the sense of waiting?  Bills sitting around waiting to be paid just enslave you.  If you don't have enough money to pay in full, pay what you can and mail back that payment.
  • Carry around a lot of cash to buy the stuff you normally buy.  Using credit cards or debit cards to buy groceries, gas, meals out, drinks, coffee, admissions, clothes and personal needs is just another method to enslave yourself.  Using cash is so liberating.
  • Get divorced if you are in a marriage that is restricting you.
  • Get a restraining order against someone who will not leave you alone.
  • Look for better employment if you are at all unsatisfied with your job.
  • Get some type of on-line or off-line part-time business going.
  • Account for your future payments months in advance.  What I do is is write the amounts of each bill that is deducted from my checking account automatically a month or sometimes months ahead.  The money is coming out automatically next month and the following months, so I deduct that amount from my account and live on what is left.  I am paying my bills months ahead and eliminate the stress of worrying about paying those bills.

You can buy freedom.  You can think about and order your life in a way that suits you.  You do not have to follow the herd or take the mainstream advice.
